Job description
Are you technically strong and commercially driven? Are you looking for a substantive field sales position where pump technology, customer advice, and independence come together? As a Field Sales Engineer, you are responsible for maintaining and expanding customer relationships in the Northern Netherlands.
You are the technical and commercial point of contact for customers with questions regarding industrial pumps and pump technology. You delve into the application, identify the technical needs, and translate these, together with internal colleagues, into a suitable solution, quotation, or order.
This is about substantive technical advice and sustainable customer relationships, not quick sales pitches. You guide sales processes from initial contact and technical assessment to quotation, order, and realization. In doing so, you maintain an overview and safeguard both customer interests and commercial objectives.
Why this is your new job
You work within a technical trading organization with its own factories and an international background. Knowledge, reliability, and continuity are central. As a result, you work with high-quality pump technology and diverse industrial applications.
The role is varied and offers a high degree of independence. You are active within your region and regularly schedule appointments with clients in the Northern Netherlands. At the same time, you work closely with experienced colleagues in Groningen, other field staff, and specialists within the organization.
The team is compact, expert, and driven. The collaboration is direct and down-to-earth, with short lines of communication, clear agreements, and room to take independent responsibility.
Working from home is possible in consultation, depending on the tasks and client agreements. The basic principle is that clients and colleagues can count on you and that the work is carried out professionally and carefully.
There is also room for personal development. You can further deepen your knowledge of pump technology, industrial applications, products, and customer issues. Depending on your ambitions, you can also develop towards more commercial responsibility or a specialist technical position.
What are you going to do?
As a Field Sales Engineer, you are responsible for maintaining existing customer relationships and developing new commercial opportunities within the Northern Netherlands. Your duties include, among others:
- Retaining and further developing existing clients, approximately 70% of your work.
- Actively developing new clients, applications, and commercial opportunities, approximately 30% of your work.
- Planning and conducting customer visits and sales appointments in the Northern Netherlands.
- Identifying and analyzing technical customer needs and advising on suitable pump technical solutions.
- Identifying, developing, and following up on commercial opportunities within industrial markets.
- Building and maintaining lasting relationships with technical and commercial contacts.
- Guiding sales processes from initial customer contact to quotation, order, and realization.
- Coordinating ongoing projects, quotations, and customer inquiries with internal technical and commercial colleagues.
- Collaborating with colleagues, international factories, and suppliers within the Verder Group.
- Actively contribute to the further growth of the market position and client portfolio in the Northern Netherlands.
As a Field Sales Engineer, you combine technical knowledge of industrial pumps with commercial insight and strong communication skills. You will have the freedom to independently develop your region and advise customers on reliable solutions for various pump applications.
Candidate profile
You have a commercial mindset but always think from the perspective of the customer, the technical application, and the long term. You work in a structured manner, take responsibility for your results, and prefer to invest in sustainable customer relationships rather than quick sales deals.
For this position, we are looking for an independent and technically interested Field Sales Engineer who feels comfortable in a field sales role and thrives on customer contact, technical challenges, and commercial results.
You have:
- Technical affinity; experience with pump technology, rotary equipment, industrial pumps, or industrial installations is a strong advantage.
- An independent, enterprising, and results-oriented work attitude.
- The ability to analyze customer needs and technical issues and translate them into appropriate technical solutions.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills and the ability to interact with clients at various levels.
- A professional command of the Dutch language, both spoken and written.
- A customer-oriented and consultative sales style, focused on building long-term relationships.
- Willingness to independently visit clients in the Northern Netherlands and actively further develop your region.
- You preferably live in the Northern Netherlands, for example in Friesland, Drenthe, or the northern part of Overijssel. A place of residence in or around Groningen is preferred.
Terms and conditions of employment;
This position as Field Sales Engineer offers an attractive combination of freedom, responsibility, and commercial-technical challenge within a stable and growing family business. You will have ample room to work independently, take initiative, and determine your own approach, without unnecessary control or micromanagement.
You combine maintaining and expanding existing client relationships with developing new commercial opportunities. As a result, the position offers both the stability of an existing client portfolio and the dynamism of business development.
You work in a technically challenging industrial environment where your technical knowledge, commercial insight, and ideas contribute directly to customer success and the further growth of the organization.
You can count on:
- An electric company car with a budget of €950 per month.
- 27 vacation days and 13 compensatory time off days per year.
- Participation in the PME Pension Fund.
- A bonus scheme of up to a maximum of 2 months' salary.
- €15 sports allowance per month.
- A company phone and laptop.
- A lot of freedom and independence in organizing your work.
- Room for initiative, entrepreneurship, and personal development.
- A stable work environment within a growing family business.
This position is interesting for a commercial-technical professional who enjoys working independently, building lasting client relationships, and simultaneously wants to be responsible for the commercial development of his or her region.
